After the near bankcruptcy of the state caused by the Seven Years War and having struggled with the parliaments in Paris and the political House of Orléans at court Louis XV who has reigned in France for over 50 years has eventually regained some stability for his country and saved the prestige of the absolute monarchy. Nonetheless the people in Paris and especially the peasants living on the land suffered from poverty and hunger. Though life at court was as decadent and luxurious as ever.
